    Example, if your Account No. is 123000456789765 and Cheque No. whose Payment needs to be stopped is 123456, so you need to send SMS as STOPCHQ 123456 789765 019 to 5676782 or 9717000002

Reason Codes are shown as below :-
019 - Cheque Book lost
020 - Cheque Book mutilated
021 - Cheque Book stolen
022 - Cheque forged
023 - Cheque lost
018 - Cheque Book not received
016 - Others
017 - Wrong amount spelt 


Note: In the above example, we took the reason code as 019.

How To Stop Cheque Payment Through Kotak Mahindra Bank Internet Banking?



Finance Guru Speaks: This article will provide you information on how you can request for stopping your Kotak Mahindra Bank Cheque payment through Internet Banking facility.

First of all, why would someone issue a Cheque and then want to cancel the payment request?

Some of the common reasons are:-
  1. The respective issued Cheque got lost in courier/post.
  2. Issued Cheque got stolen.
  3. You want to reissue a new Cheque because of some reasons.
  4. You have already paid the receiving party in Cash.
  5. The Cheque was issued with some errors.

Steps to follow to stop Cheque Payment using Kotak Mahindra Bank Internet Banking:-


1. Open Kotak Mahindra Bank Online Banking Website. Provide your login details like CRN (Customer Relationship Number) and Password.

2. Generate the Dynamic Access Code. It will be send to your registered Email ID and Mobile Number.Provide the Dynamic Access Code and click on SECURE LOGIN.

3. Once the Home Page gets opened, go to Banking -> Service Requests -> New Service Request link as shown below:-

-          First select the Account number.

-          As seen above, you need to provide the Start Cheque Number and End Cheque Number. Suppose you have to cancel payments issued via 3 Cheques: 000121,000122 & 000123, then you can give "Start Cheque Number=000121" and "End Cheque Number = 000123".

-          If you want to cancel only one Cheque Payment, then enter that Cheque Number in the "Start Cheque Number" field and leave "End Cheque Number" as Blank.

-          Click on Stop Cheque button.

-         Confirm the request.

This is how you can cancel the payment request of an issued Cheque.

Please note as per Internet Banking site:-

Stop Payment instruction once given cannot be withdrawn. The cheque numbers mentioned should belong to the same cheque book.

2. Once the page is opened, go to Request > Stop Payment of Cheque and you can see the page which will help you to cancel your Cheque payment.

-          First, select the Account number.

-          As seen above, you need to select the Start Cheque Number and End Cheque Number. Suppose you have to cancel payments issued via 3 Cheques: 000121,000122 & 000123, then you can give "Start Cheque Number=000121" and "End Cheque Number = 000123".

-          If you want to cancel only one Cheque Payment, then enter that Cheque Number in the "Start Cheque Number" field and leave "End Cheque Number" as Blank.

Finance Guru Speaks: This article will provide you information on how you can request for stopping your SBI (State Bank of India) Cheque payment through your Online SBI facility.

First of all, why would someone issue a Cheque and then want to cancel the payment request?

Some of the common reasons are:-
  1. The respective issued Cheque got lost in courier/post.
  2. Issued Cheque got stolen.
  3. You want to reissue a new Cheque because of some reasons.
  4. You have already paid the receiving party in Cash.
  5. The Cheque was issued with some errors.
You can request for stopping the payment for both "Normal Cheque" and "Multi City Cheque".


Steps to follow to Stop Cheque Payment Through SBI Online Banking:-


1. Login to SBI Internet Banking Account with your Username/Password.

2. Once your account is opened, go to e-Services > Stop Cheque Payment >STOP CHEQUE PAYMENT and you can see the page which will help you to cancel your Cheque payment.

-          First select the Account number.

-          As seen above, you need to select the Start Cheque Number and End Cheque Number. Suppose you have to cancel payments issued via 3 Cheques: 000121,000122 & 000123, then you can give "Start Cheque Number=000121" and "End Cheque Number = 000123".

-          If you want to cancel only one Cheque Payment, then enter that Cheque Number in the "Start Cheque Number" field and leave "End Cheque Number" as Blank.

-          Select whether the issued Cheque is a Normal Cheque or Multi City Cheque.

-          Provide Stop Reason from the dropdown list.

-          Accept Terms & Conditions and click on Submit button.

This is how you can cancel the payment request of an issued Cheque.

Some points to remember as per Internet Banking site:-

1. The request of "Stop-Cheque-Payment" can be revoked by the customer using the tab "Revoke Stop Payment Instruction" given above.
 

2. The functionality of stop-Cheque-payment request through Internet Banking, will be available only from 8:00 Hrs (IST) to 20:00 Hrs (IST)
 

3. Stop Cheque payment services through onlinesbi.com , is in addition to this service available through our branches and cannot be claimed as a right at any point of time. In case of non-availability of stop-Cheque-payment services online, you are requested to approach the concerned home branch.

4. The stop payment charges for each instrument is Rs.50/- + (Including Service Tax) up to maximum of 3 instruments and Rs.300/- + (Including Service Tax) for a range of instruments exceeding 3. Charges will be recovered from your account separately.
 

5. You can use Stop-Cheque-Payment for any of your accounts (Savings, Current, Cash Credit, Over Draft)
 

6. A person holding the cheque book can avail this facility.

What Is The Format Of CTS-2010 Standard Cheque Book?


Finance Guru Speaks: As per the said new RBI guidelines, banks have been advised to issue only 'CTS 2010' standard multicity/Payable at Par cheques to their account holders. Effective December 31st, 2012 usage of non 'CTS 2010' standard cheques would not be applicable with regard to your investments.

How to identify a CTS '2010' compliant cheque :

1.      Bank's logo printed with invisible ink
2.      Void pantograph
3.      Cheque printer details/CTS- 2010
4.      Rupee symbol
5.      Signature Space Indicator

The sample of a CTS 2010 standard cheque format is shown below:-

You may also consult with your bank for more clarification in this regard.

How are you impacted?
  • You are advised to note that effective December 31, 2012 you would not be able to do financial transactions in Mutual Funds, etc with non CTS 2010 standard cheques.
  • In case you have submitted post-dated non-CTS 2010 standard cheques dated 1st January 2013 onwards for your Systematic Investment Plan (SIP) investments, please replace them with CTS-2010 standard cheques before 31/12/2012

  • The stronger security features in the CTS-2010 cheque makes it easy for the presenting banks to confirm the genuineness of the drawee banks' instruments.
  • The standardization of security features would act as a deterrent against frauds and enhance customer safety.
